In-Home Preschool with Ms. Melissa
Policies and Procedures: Fall 2011-Spring 2012
Welcome to in-home preschool with Ms. Melissa! I look forward to getting to know you and your child! I love having the privilege of learning all about each individual child: finding out their likes and dislikes, what makes them unique, how they learn, and more.
Hours of operation:
I am open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Preschool starts at 9:30 am and pick-up is from 2:25-2:30 pm. If you need to drop your child off late or pick them up early, please do your best to notify me by calling my cell phone. This way, I can plan accordingly and make sure your child misses as little as possible in the way of classroom activities. If you are running late/ have an appointment in the morning/etc. and call me, I will make sure to try and set out any activities/ things we may have done so that hopefully your child can participate in them when he or she gets here. I don’t want children to miss anything, but I understand schedules fluctuate and things come up.
I do offer before and after-school care for parents who need it. Before-school care is anytime between 7:30 am and 9:30 am. After-school care is anytime between 2:30 and 4:30 pm. An $8/hour charge will be given for each hour the child is there before or after school (25 minutes or more of the hour will qualify for a full hour of care).
If your child is late getting picked up and Ms. Melissa has not been notified before, a $1 a minute fee will be charged after the first 15 minutes (starting at 2:45 pm).
Emergencies are excluded from this policy. I have these policies in place because I DO close at 2:30 and plan my family-life accordingly. I am happy to accommodate when things come up; these policies and fees are in place to accommodate both the parents and myself.
Payment policies:
The cost of tuition for the 3-day preschool program is $350/month. This rate is the same whether there are 4 or 5 weeks in the month. (3 months out of the year have 5 weeks).
Payment is due on the 1st Tuesday of the month. After the 10th of the month, a $15 late fee will be applied to your tuition.
Registration fee is $200. This fee is to secure your child’s spot. Payment of this fee ensures that your child has a spot in my school and that I will not be giving that spot to any other child. Spaces are limited, so this is an important aspect of my policies. The registration fee is non-refundable.
Lunch and snacks:
WE ARE A PEANUT-FREE SCHOOL! Please do not ever bring peanut products to school. This is done because we are a smaller class and we are in close quarters; therefore if I have a student with severe peanut allergies, it is impossible for me to shield them from exposure. I take no chances with this or any other serious allergies. Please no peanut products ever! Thank you! J
You are responsible for providing a lunch each day for your child. Please bring 2-3 healthy bulk snacks at the beginning of the school year; we will use these for morning snacks. We will eat a morning snack and we will have lunch at preschool. Please make sure your child has eaten breakfast when he/she arrives at 9:30 am. If you would like for me to provide your child with a snack and/or lunch, I am happy to do so. There will be a lunch fee for this service. For a week’s worth of lunches (3 days), the fee is $15 per week.
Pick up time:
In my experiences, children often use pick-up-time to test adults and see “who is in charge”. It is perfectly normal preschool behavior. When you walk in the door, your child is your responsibility. Please handle/discipline your child accordingly during this time. I have found this the best way of handling any pick-up time disruptions. I am happy to use this time to briefly discuss your child’s day and any successes or struggles he or she might have had that day. This works best when children realize that there is still continuity in discipline in the classroom.
No child is allowed to exit the front door without an adult with them.
Outdoor play:
We will go outside for approximately 45 minutes of our 5 hour school-day each day. Please dress your child accordingly- shoes to play outside in (closed toe are preferred, but not required), coats and jackets if it’s cold, sunscreen for hot days, etc. Your child will more than likely get dirty, so please understand. Please also keep a change of clothing in your child’s cubby area or backpack.
Should weather be inclement, we will play inside in the upstairs living area. We will use this as our gym-type area. Here I will keep larger, interactive play items like tunnels to climb through, tents to play in, shopping carts and dramatic play items (dress up clothes, kitchens, housekeeping centers, etc).
Potty Policies:
Your child must be potty-trained to enter the fall-spring program. Children are expected to be fully-potty trained. This means going to the restroom by themselves. No pull-ups or training pants/diapers please. For this program, we plan our schedule so that we get as much out of our academic and play time as possible, and changing diapers will interrupt these times. Accidents sometimes happen, which is another reason we always keep a change of clothes handy. But please remember children should be fully potty trained (not having regular accidents) before entering this program.
Supplies needed:
Each child needs a folder with his or her FULL name on it. Backpacks are optional, but recommended. I will send all crafts, notes, etc home in their folders.
To get us started off, I ask that each child brings the following with them to the first day of school:
* 1 pack of sturdy, multi-colored construction paper
* 1 pack of washable markers
* 1 pack of crayons
* 1 package or set of washable paints (tempera, finger, or water colors are all great!)
* 1 package of dry-erase markers
* 1 box of tissues
* 1 roll of paper towels
Supplies your child will keep at school will include:
* Their nap mat and anything they need to sleep with (blankets, stuffed animals, etc can go home on an every day basis if your child would like; nap mats can stay)
* A change of clothes
Please put your child’s FULL NAME on everything! :)
