So I'm currently busy preparing for what I know is going to be an awesome summer preschool program! For those interested, I thought I might expand a little on what our daily activities will look like. I also posted our daily schedule in the policies/handbook post if you haven't yet checked that out :)
I will try and incorporate science, math, reading, writing, art, and Bible into each day.
So, for example, while we're studying plants and flowers, we might dedicate one of our days to sunflowers. That day, we might read books about sunflowers and gardening. We would plant sunflowers in our pots and discuss what all our sunflowers will need to grow. We would discuss where plants get their food and energy from.
We would make a sunflower for our craft that day. We would use our phonics curriculum (I use Jolly Phonics) to learn about different letters, including S. (Jolly Phonics introduces children to letters AND their sound, but focuses 1st on the sound as opposed to just recongizing the letter. You can learn more about their curriculum on their website).
We would talk about how "S is for sunflowers" and what other words start with S. Children still learning their letters/sounds would focus more on the letter and the sound it makes, where as older children may focus more on words that start with "s". We might make a collage of things that start with an "s" and work on writing the letter "s" and "s" words.
During our centers, we would explore various games, puzzles, and activities relating to plants and flowers. Outside, we might examine flowers growing or even pick them from the yard.
We might make a graph of our favorite flowers at the end of the day.
Our activities will vary and will be geared towards indiivdual students. Because our summer program is going to be open to a wide age range of students, I WILL gear any work or activities done individually towards their personal level. However, I will make our group activities so that everyone can equally participate.
As always, if you have any questions or are interested in enrolling your child(ren) please feel free to contact me!
God Bless!
Ms. Melissa
